Yathe.. is topping the charts: G V Prakash

The first time director Vetrimaaran and music director G V Prakash sat down to work on the music of Aadukalam, the young composer hummed a tune that he thought would fit in the scheme of things.

Today, that particular tune which blossomed into the chartbuster that is Yathe Yathe... has turned out to be the most important song in his career.

"It's topping the charts on every radio station," beams an excited Prakash, who has composed and sung the foot-tapping song, "And, it's become a hot number in college culturals in the city. I'm told that whenever it is played, the students dance, whistle and enjoy themselves to the hilt."

Even as he is basking in the success of the superhit song, GV has moved on and started work on his first Bollywood film, titled Joker. "I'm giving it my best," he says, "As this is my first Hindi flick, I want my music to sound as fresh as possible for the listeners. I'm trying to be reborn with this album, musically."

The musician is hoping that this film, which stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles, will provide him the big break in Bollywood. "I've already finished work on two songs," says GV, who is currently in Mumbai for the recording, "As the film will be in the sci-fi genre, the songs will be high on energy, and appeal to the masses."

So, is he planning to croon in Hindi too? "Well, I'm hoping to sing one number," he smiles, "There's a luck factor associated with the songs I sing among my compositions. Right now, I'm working towards getting my Hindi diction right."

Back home, he has director Vijay's film with Vikram to look forward to. "My personal favourite is Vizhigalil Oru Vaanavil..., which has the potential to become a chartbuster," he reveals, "But there's one more song which is sung by actor Vikram!" So, did he opt for actor Vikram's voice because they'd already collaborated in Madrassapattiam? "Well, the character was required to sing and we asked Vikram. He readily agreed and it! 's come out well."
